T-Mobile Launch Appeal Against Barnet Council Refusal (Documented Here)

As expected T-Mobile have launched an appeal against Barnet Council's refusal to grant planning permission for the intrusive mast they want to erect outside the Public Library on Colney Hatch Lane.

I was notified of the planned appeal by Ms Bhavi Makani of Barnet's Planning Office in a letter dated 27th Feb and reproduced here:

I have written to Ms Makani to ensure that the petition and letters I organised before Christmas are forwarded to the Appeals Officer Dave Shorland:

I have also written to Dr Rudi Vis MP who supported the opposition to the original application:

Please write to the appeals officer outlining your concerns

If necessary use my letter against the original application as a basis for your own letter.

It is important to campaign on the official grounds for complaint:-
1. VISUAL ASPECT - the mast will stick out like a sore thumb
2. PROXIMITY TO HOUSING AND LEISURE FACILITIES - a mast this size and design is possibly a breach of the Human Rights Act as it will result in increased noise and disturbance to adjacent residential properties and leisure facilities.
3. SITING AND EXTERNAL APPEARANCE - will detract from the local area.
4. LOSS OF AMENITY - Local residents will loose the use of the Library, as regardless of the proven medical effects, the percieved ill-effects will result in residents being unwilling to use the Library adjacent to the proposed site.

Remember: There are 9 schools, and 10 community facilities within a 1km radius of the proposed site. See the full list here
Remember: Bizarrely health considerations are not relevant in the planning process, so do not base your letter on the potential ill-effects of Base Stations, even if that is in fact your main concern.

Here are some useful links for more information when preparing your letter:-

The sparse details provided on the Barnet Council Planning Website
The Mast Sanity website - a pressure group dedicated to advising residents how to fight the inappropriate placement of masts,
and also a central source of scientific information (see their links page)
The UK Government Commissioned Stewart Report
Dr Neil Cherry the New Zealand Professor of Environmental Health who maintains with respect to electromagnetic fields and radiation that
"there is no safe threshold level. The only safe exposure level is zero"
